Rutgers School of Social Work Welcomes New MSW Class

Rutgers School of Social Work is pleased to welcome its newest cohort of MSW students to campus. 

Students range in age from 21 to 65 and come to Rutgers from over 200 different undergraduate institutions. Members of the newest MSW class identified their race and ethnicity as follows: 8% Asian, 18% Black, 16% Hispanic, 8% Puerto Rican, 3% multi-racial, and 47% white. The majority of MSW students (45%) are enrolled in the on-campus program while 40% are studying online, 8% are in the Intensive Weekend program, and 7% will participate in the blended online program. This is also the first year the School admitted a two-year online MSW cohort to all three academic terms (spring, summer, and fall). Among the new online students, 25% are out-of-state residents, and 14% of all MSW students maintain residency outside of New Jersey.

The School also enrolled 10 new excellence scholars who demonstrated exceptional academic and personal accomplishments in their applications and earned tuition awards. Students received their undergraduate degrees from Cornell University, Howard University, North Carolina A&T State University, Vassar College, and Rutgers, among other institutions. The excellence scholars have diverse interests in social work and climate change, minority mental health issues, gerontology, and youth mentoring.
