NYU Silver School of Social Work Dean Michael A. Lindsey to Deliver 2026 Convocation Address
Michael A. Lindsey, PhD, MSW, MPH, Dean of NYU Silver School of Social Work and an Aspen Institute Fellow, will deliver the 2026 Rutgers School of Social Work Convocation address on Monday, May 18.
Dr. Michael A. Lindsey is a leading scholar in child and adolescent mental health and an expert on Black youth suicide. Dr. Lindsey has advised the Congressional Black Caucus on Black Youth Suicide and chaired the working group of experts behind the influential report Ring the Alarm: The Crisis of Black Youth Suicide in America. He is President of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in Social Work, and serves on the New York City Board of Health.
Previously, Dr. Lindsey was Executive Director of the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research. He serves on the editorial boards of Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services Research, Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Psychiatric Services, and School Mental Health. The politics news outlet City & State New York has recognized him in the 2026 Trailblazers in Health Care list, and prior power lists covering Health, Higher Education and Mental Health. He holds a PhD and MPH from the University of Pittsburgh, an MSW from Howard University, and a BA from Morehouse College.
