This 90-minute virtual summit convened global thought leaders on aging in community whose scholarship integrates research, theory, and practice to enhance work on community-centered initiatives and aging equity. Drawing attendees from over 17 countries, this global summit included three presentations, large-group reflection, and facilitated breakout room discussions. Presentation slides are available here.

Dr. Lauren Snedeker provided an overview of ageism and ways to promote age inclusivity through the application of the Liberatory Consciousness Model. The Liberatory Consciousness Model, developed by Dr. Barbara J. Love, empowers people to become aware of and resist age-based discrimination. Dr. Snedeker provided suggestions on ways to be more age-inclusive in the classroom and in the work environment at Rutgers School of Social Work and beyond.

At this event, entitled "‘I'm Part of Something that Matters’: Exploring What Older Adults Value through their Engagement in Age-Friendly Community Initiatives," we highlighted insights from an upcoming publication exploring what being part of an age-friendly community initiative can mean for older adults.
