Hosted by the MSW Aging & Health Certificate Program, this student-focused speed networking event for students interested in aging and health will be held in recognition of both Careers in Aging Month and National Social Work Month.

Hub team members and community partners will be presenting at the 2026 "On Aging" conference of the American Soceity On Aging. Presentations will explore recent findings into Village organizational structures and the use of digital technologies, particularly AI, among age-friendly community initiatives.
Join the Parker Health Group Division of Geriatrics and the Hub for Aging Collaboration for an in-person event to meet others working in aging research at Rutgers and share your work! Attendees will share their research interests, current projects, and what they are looking for in potential collaborators. Registration required.

The Rutgers School of Social Work offers a wide range of continuing education offerings focused on critical practice topics related aging and older adults, including a certificate programs in gerontology (both basic and advanced), senior housing issues, and senior services management.

This virtual roundtable featured Rutgers-based work on social policy and aging in New Jersey. Presentations from Rutgers researchers and community partners highlighted their work spanning disciplines and sectors to advance 21st-century policy on aging. This event was part of the annual Rountable on Aging Series hosted by the Hub for Aging Collaboration each March.

At the session, "Going Digital: How Age-Friendly Communities are Adopting Tools for Impact," the Hub team highlighted the range of digital tools age-friendly initiatives reported using and case examples highlighting the strategic ways they use technology to advance their work.

Hub team members joined a state-wide convening of over 100 New Jersey leaders and champions on aging in Hamilton (NJ) to discuss the importance of developing a Multi-Sector Plan for Aging in New Jersey, as well as next steps for leveraging the inspiration and momentum into action.

Hub team members joined other leaders of the Village Movement at the 2025 Village to Village Network National Virtual Village Gathering for a session entitled, "Building a Data Foundation to Strengthen Villages and Prove their Value." The Rutgers team shared an update on a recently launched national project surveying all operational Villages.

Hub team members presented at the September meeting of the Lifelong Maine Learn and Share community of practice on ways age-friendly leaders report using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their work, spanning generating public communications, internal materials, and brainstorms for strategic directions. The team discussed important ethical and practical considerations in using AI in age-friendly practice.

Hub team members presented at the September meeting of the Age-Friendly Health System (AHFS) Research Network, sharing the ways they use qualitative research methods to develop insights into the human processes of age-friendly social change. The Hub team illustrated this qualitative approach through their recent paper, “'It made me change the way I do business': Outcomes from age-friendly community initiatives as systems change."

Dean Sandra Edmonds Crewe, the 2024-25 Sojourner Truth Visiting Professor for Race and Social Justice, presented a special lecture to students in the Aging & Health Certificate Program that explored the strengths and challenges of aging for Black older adults, weaving together powerful historical contexts, narratives, and theories to shed light on disparities in later life.

This 90-minute virtual summit convened global thought leaders on aging in community whose scholarship integrates research, theory, and practice to enhance work on community-centered initiatives and aging equity. Drawing attendees from over 17 countries, this global summit included three presentations, large-group reflection, and facilitated breakout room discussions. Presentation slides are available here.

Dr. Lauren Snedeker provided an overview of ageism and ways to promote age inclusivity through the application of the Liberatory Consciousness Model. The Liberatory Consciousness Model, developed by Dr. Barbara J. Love, empowers people to become aware of and resist age-based discrimination. Dr. Snedeker provided suggestions on ways to be more age-inclusive in the classroom and in the work environment at Rutgers School of Social Work and beyond.
