December 5, 2024

This 90-minute virtual summit convened global thought leaders on aging in community whose scholarship integrates research, theory, and practice to enhance work on community-centered initiatives and aging equity. Drawing attendees from over 17 countries, this global summit included three presentations, large-group reflection, and facilitated breakout room discussions. Presentation slides are available here. 

November 4, 2024

Dr. Lauren Snedeker provided an overview of ageism and ways to promote age inclusivity through the application of the Liberatory Consciousness Model. The Liberatory Consciousness Model, developed by Dr. Barbara J. Love, empowers people to become aware of and resist age-based discrimination. Dr. Snedeker provided suggestions on ways to be more age-inclusive in the classroom and in the work environment at Rutgers School of Social Work and beyond.

Villages as Key Partners for Healthy Aging Research Virtual Summits  

June - July 2024

The Hub collaboratively co-hosted a series of six virtual summits in June and July exploring critical questions to advance research as a tool to strengthen the Village Movement. Events were tailored for Villages across six geographic regions in the United States and Canada. 

Rutgers Virtual Event to Kickoff Older Americans Month 2024

The Hub and OLLI-RU held a joint virtual event to kickoff to Older Americans Month 2024. At this event, entitled "‘I'm Part of Something that Matters’: Exploring What Older Adults Value through their Engagement in Age-Friendly Community Initiatives," we highlighted insights from an upcoming publication exploring what being part of an age-friendly community initiative can mean for older adults. The Hub team had a great time learning at #RutgersDay 2024 with people of all ages under the big tent of the Rutgers School of Social Work! We enjoyed debunking myths about aging, learning about people’s hopes and dreams for their aging selves, and sharing innovative policies and practices for our aging world. Thanks to all for your participation!

The inaugural InnovAGING NJ 2024 Summit was a showcase of innovative programs and partnerships improving the lives of older adults and changing the aging norms in New Jersey. 250 attendees joined the event to explore ways of creating a brighter future for aging and health equity in New Jersey. Roundtable on Aging Education at Rutgers

The event was the Hub's 2024 Careers in Aging Month kick-off event. This virtual roundtable brought together over 45 people from the Rutgers community with the goal of building a community to advance aging education at Rutgers through an exchange of aging-focused education programs and opportunities. 

Breaking the Mold: Synergies Across Older Adult Programming, Senior Centers, and Age-Friendly Community Initiatives in New Jersey  

February 13, 2024

This virtual event featured cross-sectoral perspectives on fostering strong and deliberate partnerships across older adult programs/senior centers and age-friendly community initiatives in New Jersey and was co-hosted by the Rutgers Hub for Aging Collaboration, NJAAW, Silver Linings at Old Bridge, and the Henry and Marylin Taub Foundation. Click here to learn more about the event.

The event focused on how such committees can be used to create positive changes for older residents

Careers in Aging 2023

Co-sponsored by OLLI-RU and the Hub, the 2023 Careers in Aging event was the launch event for the Hub for Aging Collaboration. Attendees toured OLLI-RU and brainstormed ways to begin intentionally building an aging-focused community among the broader Rutgers community, including current students, faculty, and staff, as well as alumni and community partners.

Accessibility in Virtual Programming

Co-hosted with the Inclusive Healthy Communities program, the Hub for Aging Collaboration at the Rutgers School of Social Work, the Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and the Digital Accessibility Working Group. This panel conversation explored practice strategies for making virtual programming more accessible for attendees.

Age-Friendly Virtual Fair 2022

The Virtual Fair convened individuals doing work related to age-friendly communities in NJ to learn from and connect with one another. The event served to help age-friendly champions across sectors identify opportunities for strengthening each other’s work and the Age-Friendly movement in New Jersey.
