Dr. Sandra Edmonds Crewe, Professor and Dean Emerita at Howard University School of Social Work in Washington, D.C., was named the 2024-25 Rutgers School of Social Work Sojourner Truth Social & Racial Justice Visiting Professor.

Dean Crewe’s research includes three substantive areas: (1) Black older adults, (2) leadership, and (3) community engagement with communities of color, all of which are central to the work at Rutgers School of Social Work and in contemporary social work research nationally. Dean Crewe has published nearly 30 peer-reviewed journal articles. She currently has funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Her most recent book published by Oxford University Press is Social Work, White Supremacy and Racial Justice: Reckoning with our History, Interrogating our Present, Past, and Future. Dr. Crewe is a National Association of Social Work pioneer and recipient of the Next Avenue Influencer in Aging Award and Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Trust Award.
