On Monday, May 15, Rutgers School of Social Work hosted a convocation ceremony to recognize its BASW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. graduates. Families and friends gathered at Jersey Mike’s Arena in New Brunswick in support of their loved ones who have spent years of hard work completing their programs and tackling countless hours of class time, research, and field work.

Dr. Leonard Brown, a long-time faculty member at Rutgers School of Social Work, passed away on April 21, 2023 at the Stonebridge at Montgomery retirement center. He was 95 years old.

Associate Professor of Professional Practice Marla Blunt-Carter has been appointed to the Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.

To share our mission and vision with campus and community members, the School of Social Work commissioned a public art project in collaboration with Mason Gross School of the Arts. The project began last summer when a group of School of Social Work community members, which consisted of faculty and staff at all levels, convened to discuss a vision and plan for the project. Once established, the School worked to find a student artist to execute the project using their own creative lens. Ria Monga, a senior at Mason Gross School of the Arts, was chosen from a pool of candidates to design the project.

On Monday, February 27, Associate Professor of Professional Practice Marla Blunt-Carter and her father Theodore "Ted" Blunt, a Rutgers School of Social Work alum, were invited to attend a Black History Month event at the White House hosted by President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden. 

March is Social Work Month, a time to inform public, policymakers, and legislators about how social workers have always broken barriers when it comes to the services they provide.
