Fall 2022 Student Events: Equine-Assisted Social Work

November 9: Equine-Assisted Social Work with Dana Spett (Weds) 4pm-5:30pm

As social workers, we often face clients and systems who are challenging to connect with or considered hard to reach. Yet, a hallmark of the social work profession is our ability to work with systems in their entirety. Viewing social work practice through the lens of nature, specifically horses, offers an opportunity to explore the full expression of social work and the constant interplay between micro, mezzo, and macro systems. Equine-Assisted Social Work is an emerging novel approach to social work practice. This presentation will offer an overview of equine-assisted social work from a working farm that cares for horses, humans, and the land as a system. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of social work theory and practice and how nature, particularly horses, can offer opportunities to connect.

You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
