Professional Job Search Workshop Series for Social Workers: Compensation (Fringe) Benefits
Presented by Associate Professor Anna Haley
You've nailed the interview and gotten a job offer. You want to negotiate well (see above session listing). But to do that, you need to understand the vast complexity of compensation package items that may be available to you as an incoming professional worker. What's the difference between a PPO and HMO health insurance plan, and co-insurance vs. co-pays? How do employers calculate their contributions to your retirement savings, and how do you decide whether and what to contribute yourself? This is not typical family dinner table conversation growing up, but represents critical knowledge for you to fare best in your career.
This event is part of a four-part series designed to prepare upcoming and recent social work graduates with tools for successful professional job searches, including writing great resumes and cover letters; interviewing to put your best self forward; negotiating compensation packages to "do well while doing good," and understanding the complexities of career job benefits (like how health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off work). Having trained social work students, alums, and professionals on job search strategies for the last 25 years, Professor Haley will review key strategies in these sessions as well as take participant questions.
All sessions will be recorded.
