As a licensed clinical social worker specializing in couples therapy, I find that African American couples yearn for stable, loving, and lasting relationships. Addressing the socio-historical context of African American marriages and providing strategies will ultimately help the black community to disrupt intergenerational transmissions of trauma that have inhibited healthy, loving, and stable marriages.
