Aging & Health Certificate

Once Accepted

If you are accepted into the MSW Certificate in Aging & Health, your transcripts and field placement progress will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Failure to achieve a minimum grade of B in any course used to satisfy the Certificate requirements or failure to successfully complete the assigned advanced year field placement may result in being dismissed from the program. The Certificate Coordinator retains the right to terminate students, on a case-by-case basis, for violations of academic integrity, the University Code of Student Conduct, the NASW Code of Ethics, or other factors that bear on the ability to maintain the standard of care in social work practice.

If you defer your acceptance to the MSW program after being admitted to the MSW Certificate in Aging & Health program, you will have to complete an additional application and send to the Certificate Coordinator when you start your MSW studies.

If you are dismissed from the Rutgers MSW program for any reason, you are automatically dismissed from the MSW Certificate in Aging & Health program. Should you be reinstated to the MSW program, you will not be automatically reinstated to the Certificate program and must reapply.

If you take a Leave of Absence (LOA) during your MSW studies for up to two semesters, you will remain in the MSW Certificate in Aging & Health program and will not have to reapply when you resume your MSW studies.  You may opt to withdraw from the MSW Certificate in Aging & Health program at any time and without any penalty. To withdraw you will need to give written notice to the Certificate Coordinator at Laursned@ssw.rutgers.edu and include the Aging Certificate Program mailbox, aging@ssw.rutgers.edu.
