LATINA/O/X INITIATIVES FOR SERVICE, TRAINING, AND ASSESSMENT (LISTA) Certificate Policies

LISTA Admission and Graduation Criteria

Admissions: MSW students in good academic standing are welcome to apply to the Latina/o/x Initiatives for Service, Training and Assessment (LISTA) Certificate program. LISTA prepares social workers to decolonize social work practice and incorporate interventions in a culturally congruent manner with Latinx populations. For curricular and program specific information, visit the Rutgers LISTA website. Please note that your application will be read and scored by members of the LISTA Program staff. Decisions are final and confidential so we are unable to discuss individual decisions with applicants. Each application is given careful review and consideration.

Once Accepted: If you are accepted into the MSW LISTA Certificate program, program representatives will place you in a LISTA focused practicum agency in your second year (or both years if a scholarship recipient) and will review your practicum placement progress on an ongoing basis. In addition, failure to achieve a minimum grade of B in any of the four courses used to satisfy the Certificate requirements or failure to successfully complete the assigned practicum placement may result in being dismissed from the program. Attendance is required at one academic enrichment event during the academic year and students are encouraged to participate in LISTA Links mentoring which involves being paired with an alum. The LISTA Certificate program retains the right to terminate students, on a case-by-case basis, for violations of academic integrity, the University Code of Student Conduct, the NASW Code of Ethics, or other factors that bear on the ability to maintain the standard of care in social work practice.

If you defer your acceptance to the MSW program after being admitted to LISTA, you will have to re-apply to the Certificate program when you start your MSW studies. If you are dismissed from the Rutgers MSW program for any reason, you are automatically dismissed from the LISTA program. Should you be reinstated to the MSW program, you will not be automatically reinstated to the Certificate program and must reapply.

If you take a Leave of Absence (LOA) during your MSW studies for up to two semesters, you will remain in the LISTA program and will not have to reapply when you resume your MSW studies. You may opt to withdraw from the LISTA Certificate program at any time and without any penalty. To withdraw you will need to give written notice to the Certificate Program at LISTA@ssw.rutgers.edu.
