Center for Prevention Science
Our Mission: Develop and disseminate knowledge through research that builds the capacity of community-based organizations to create changes in public policy or environmental conditions that cause social and health disparities.
In 2012, a research group focused on community-level approaches to prevention began its work as an integral part of an initiative to empower New Jersians in our efforts to prevent the use and ill effects of substance misuse in our communities. Since its establishment as the Center for Prevention Science in 2016, we have expanded our scope of research and collaborative efforts to areas of focus such as prevention of assault and sexual abuse, community organizing, heath disparities, program evaluation, as well as empowerment theory and measurement.
To date, the Center has been granted research, evaluation, and consultation project awards totaling five million dollars. Details of our past and current work can be found on our Initiatives page.
