Bio

Maria A. Guevara-Carpio is a PhD student in the School of Social Work at Rutgers University, where she completed her BS in Public Health. She then pursued a dual degree MSW/Ph.D. with an MSW concentration in Management and Policy. Upon completing her MSW, she pursued her Ph.D. and worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Center for Research on Ending Violence.    

Maria Alejandra's diverse personal, educational, and work experiences have shaped her research interests, primarily focusing on the Latine/x community, specifically women and children. Her scholarly inquiries focus on: 1) victimization among Latine/x women, 2) child maltreatment and neglect, and 3) intergenerational trauma and resilience. She currently works on the Understanding Latina Experiences with Victimization, Intersectionality, and Discrimination (LAT-VIDA) Study, expanding the scope of Latina victimization research to include intersectionality and probe discrimination's role in victimization and help-seeking.
