Bio

Jamey Lister, PhD (Rutgers University, 2014), is an associate professor at Rutgers University School of Social Work. Dr. Lister’s addictions research focuses on developing treatment recommendations, identifying strategies to reduce treatment barriers, and utilizing research methods that promote health equity. He studies opioid use disorder, other addictions, and comorbid health disorders. Dr. Lister’s community-engaged research targets solutions for underserved rural and urban areas and disadvantaged populations. Having grown up in a rural community that is also a medically underserved area informs his scholarship. Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Lister was on the faculty at Wayne State University School of Social Work and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Some of the research led by Dr. Lister has been published in The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, The Journal of Rural Health, International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction, Addictive Behaviors, Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment, Substance Abuse, Frontiers in Psychiatry, Rural and Remote Health, International Gambling Studies, and Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. His research experience includes being the Co-Director of the Northeast & Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center (SAMHSA ROTA-R) serving HHS Region 2 and leadership roles on other federally and externally funded projects addressing addiction and health equity; he has received awards from National Institute on Drug Abuse, the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, and the U.S. Fulbright Program; and he engages in service for scientific outlets, healthcare and social work organizations, and academic institutions. Dr. Lister’s publications appear in refereed interdisciplinary journals and these studies applied multiple methods to interpret data from patients, providers, medical records, and public health measures. He teaches and provides recommendations on addiction treatment and health equity for academic, practice, community, and policy audiences.
