Basic Certificate Program in Gerontology

The Basic Certificate Program in Gerontology is designed to provide the foundation knowledge for people directing their careers toward serving older adults and their families. A multidisciplinary perspective is used in the planning and implementation of this Certificate Program.

Certificates of completion will be offered after each workshop and a final certificate will be awarded when all requirements have been met. Participants not seeking the certificate program are welcome to take individual workshops. 

To receive the Certificate in Basic Gerontology, a participant attends:

Aging: The Human Process 
15 CE Hours

Aging: Policy and Economic Considerations 
15 CE Hours

Coping with Functional Loss and Environmental Changes 
10 CE Hours

Assessment of Older Adults 
10 CE Hours

Practical Case Management with Older Adult Clients 
5 CE Hours

Communicating with Older Adults 
5 CE Hours

Elective Workshops

In the Basic and Advanced Gerontology Certificates, 2 electives are required to complete each certificate. Electives can be selected from the (non-required) workshops in all Gerontology programs.
