In continued expansion of its innovative programs, Rutgers School of Social Work is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Gabriel Robles Alberto.
Dr. Robles Alberto joins the School of Social Work faculty as an assistant professor and the Chancellor's Scholar for Inclusive Excellence in Sexual and Gender Minority Health. Dr. Robles conducts research focused on substance use prevention and sexual health among sexual and gender minorities (SGM) with a strong interest in addressing health inequities among Latinx SGM populations. He seeks to examine how cultural values can serve as resiliency factors in mitigating negative health outcomes. Dr. Robles additionally examines the role that family and romantic partners play in the health and wellbeing of sexual and gender minorities.
Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Robles held a NIDA-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the City University of New York. He graduated from the doctoral program in social work at New York University where he was awarded the CSWE Minority Fellowship. He earned his M.S.W. and an undergraduate degree in linguistics from the California State University in Long Beach.
