Rutgers School of Social Work is pleased to announce the appointment of three new associate deans effective September 1, 2020: Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Antoinette Farmer, Associate Dean for Faculty Development Victoria Banyard, and Associate Dean for Research N. Andrew Peterson. These three positions are part-time administrative appointments with faculty members retaining full faculty status with the School. Laura Curran will continue as a full-time academic administrator with a title change to Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. These leaders join Associate Dean for Finance and Administration Sharon Fortin to comprise the senior leadership team.

Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Antoinette Farmer steps into this inaugural associate dean role with a wealth of leadership experience in our School and in national social work circles. She will provide overall strategic leadership to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the School of Social Work, chair, and facilitate the work of the new School-wide, IIDEA (Inclusion, Intersectionality, Diversity, Equity and Advancement) committee, and work collaboratively with the School’s senior leadership team, program directors, and committees to set and advance strategic IIDEA priorities and policies. Associate Dean Farmer will serve as the School's liaison to the University's Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement leadership team.

Associate Dean for Faculty Development Victoria Banyard steps into the faculty development role with long experience in mentorship, and with a passion for supporting the advancement of our non-tenure track and tenure track faculty. She will develop and lead the faculty mentoring program, oversee faculty appointments, tenure and promotion processes, co-lead (with Associate Dean Peterson) the post-doc program and serve as the School’s liaison to the broader University faculty development processes. Associate Dean Banyard will continue to serve as Associate Director of VAWC.

Associate Dean for Research N. Andrew Peterson joins the leadership team with long experience as one of the School’s very successful center directors. He will advance the strategic research initiatives of the School, work with faculty on research development and to secure external grants, co-lead (with Associate Dean Banyard) the post-doctoral program, supervise the grant facilitator, chair the research committee, and serve as the School’s liaison to larger University research initiatives. Associate Dean Peterson will continue to serve as Director of the Center for Prevention Science.

Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Laura Curran will continue to lead and manage the School’s Office of Academic Affairs, comprised of the BASW and MSW Programs, their directors and curriculum committees, the field education department, the admissions department and committee, the department of student affairs, the assistant dean for part-time lecturer support, university and accreditation assessment efforts, and the key scheduling and support staff members implementing our BASW and MSW programs. Senior Associate Dean Curran serves as the School’s liaison to multiple university entities.

Associate Dean for Finance and Administration Sharon Fortin leads and manages the finance, business, information technology, human resources, operations, and facilities teams of the School. She serves as liaison to numerous University leaders and teams, and acts as an acknowledged leader and important institutional voice, given her wealth of institutional history and policy knowledge.

The SSW sends thanks to our colleagues for their continued service to our School. Check back throughout the summer for interviews with the SSW's Senior Leadership Team.
