Presentations & Workshops

Antoinette Y. Farmer, N. Andrew Peterson and Allison Zippay will be doing an invitational workshop at the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Annual Program Meeting on October 24 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The title of the workshop is “Assessing the Implicit Curriculum”.  This workshop is being offered via the CSWE Assessment Academy

J. L. M. McCoyd presented “Bridging theories of grief since Kubler-Ross: Postmodern grief and perinatal loss” at the 41st Annual Conference of the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers in Portland, Oregon.

Appointments & Honors

Michele Gregorio was admitted to the Executive Master of Public Administration program at Rutgers University.

Lia Nower has been appointed to the Editorial Board of Addictive Behaviors, a top-tier journal in addiction studies and substance abuse.

Pam Simone recently completed training to provide support for health care consumers who represent Leaders of Color. 

Emmy Tiderington served as an invited expert on a two-day panel hosted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on case management practice with homeless populations. Findings will be used by federal agencies to create a plan of work around funding, practice, and policy innovations in this area.

To date, ninety-five managers/supervisors within five cohorts from the Department of Human Services completed the DHS Leadership Academy, an eight-day skills development training series offered over the span of several months.  Major efforts over the summer enhanced the curricula focus and content.

Events

The MSW Certificate in Aging & Health hosted three pizza socials in August 2017, one on each campus, for current students and recent alum. Both students and alum welcomed the opportunity to connect with each other.

The New Jersey Coordination Center for Forensic Evaluation and Treatment (NJCC) team wrapped up its first round of peer reviews of psychological evaluations covering Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer, and Union Counties.  A dissemination meeting of the findings is planned for October, at which all psychologists that provide work for DCF from those counties will be invited to attend, along with DCF local office staff.

The New Jersey Child Support Institute training team delivered the annual Law Clerk Training across all three sites August 30-31 to reach 135 law clerks. NJCSI presented at the 2017 ERICSA Conference in St. Louis, Missouri May 21-25.  Yolanda Glover and Angela Watson presented So You Had a Bad Day- Stress Management and Norma Lisenby-Ketterer co-facilitated a session titled Sovereign Citizens.   Lauren Walton co-presented a session titled Training Successes - How to Succeed with Multi-Location Workforce Situations, New Partnerships, and New Staff Orientation Plans at the 2017 NCSEA Leadership Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona August 6-9.

The Price Family Fellows (PFF) Program welcomed its largest cohort of students to date, 26 in total, for the 2017-2018 academic year. A program orientation was held on September 8th a set of fall semester events are planned, including workshops focusing on academic planning, stress management and meditation, sexual health and harm reduction, and study abroad programs.

Training and Studies

The Ryan White Quality Management Program team completed five site visits, reviewing over 359 casework charts.

The Virginia Children’s Services Practice Model Implementation Study conducted 26 focus groups at 13 local child welfare agencies across Virginia and completed the analysis of a baseline staff survey.  This research is informing training and coaching activities planned for the coming year. 

The New Jersey Victim Assistance Academy (NJVAA) prepared 30 professionals through an 8-day, 40-hour foundation training between July and August.  Twenty-eight professionals completed the Office for Victims of Crime’s Vicarious Trauma Toolkit as part of advanced training offered in May.

In its charge to develop a state training team for NJ’s quality improvement and rating system for early care and education programs, Grow NJ Kids Training Services is preparing nine local trainers to deliver Creative Curriculum® and GOLD® curricula. In July, team members attended the annual early childhood QRIS National Meeting in Dallas, Texas to gain lessons learned from other states. The team has also been working with partners from the Department of Human Services to inform the development of the new NJ Workforce Registry that will support the state’s entire early childhood workforce. In August, Grow NJ Kids Training Services coordinated 13 different course offerings. There were a total of 45 training sessions that reached 602 in-person participants and 306 online attendees.
