David J. Stern Endowed Lecture on Innovations in Social Work and Gerontology: Seinfeld & Aging: An Evidence-Based Appraisal
Sign up for this important lecture on how to manage aging. Hear from key note speaker, Dr. Mark Lachs. Lachs is a physician, scientist, and gerontologist at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City and New York Presbyterian Hospital where he is Director of Geriatrics for its Heath Care System.
His research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, and he has appeared on the Today Show, NPR’s All Things Considered, and in many other national and local media outlets. His numerous honors and awards include a National Institute on Aging Academic Leadership Award and a Paul Beeson Physician Faculty Scholarship (the country’s preeminent career award in aging).
Dr. Lachs’ major area of interest is the disenfranchised elderly, and he has published widely in the areas of elder abuse and neglect, the measurement of functional status, ethics, and the financing of health care. He has lectured internationally on these topics. He holds a K24 mentoring award in patient oriented research and has mentored dozens of investigators in both elder abuse and topics related to aging. In January of 2000 Dr. Lachs became the first director of the Cornell Center for Aging Research and Clinical CarehARCC), a multidisciplinary group of scientists, clinicians, and educators who seek to speed scientific advances from bench to bedside, teach geriatric medicine to physicians-in-training at all levels, and create a trans-institutional community of gerontologists at Cornell.
He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA), New York University (MD), and Yale (MPH). He and his wife, Susan, a nurse practitioner, have three children and live in Connecticut.
