The current novel COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is still in its early stages but has already resulted in over a million confirmed cases and 75,000+ deaths worldwide so far. The global economy has lost nearly $6 trillion dollars in the course of only several days, with ripple effects causing individuals and businesses serious financial harm. The impact on society, businesses, and especially the healthcare and human sector has been overwhelming. The psychological effects of a constant news cycle, as well as information on the Internet, can easily become overwhelming and anxiety-producing.
Disruption of services due to bans on travel or group activities, decreased staffing levels, increased demands for services, and potential problems with the supply chain for medications, will strain every part of the healthcare, behavioral healthcare, and emergency management system. The impact on those already struggling with mental illnesses and substance abuse problems can represent a critical challenge to their safety and survival. In this webinar, we will discuss strategies and techniques for effective practice in this crisis, even when you are not able to intervene in person.
