Lecture with Larry Davis, dean of the School of Social Work, University of Pittsburgh

Larry E. Davis, Ph.D., dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh and director of the university’s Center on Race and Social Problems, will present on his latest book, Why Are They Angry with Us? Essays on Race, published by Lyceum Books. Focusing on racial resentment from Jim Crow to our first black president, Davis offers insights beyond his own expience as the first African-American to earn a Ph.D. from the dual-degree program in social work and psychology at the University fo Michigan.

The deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown that spawned the Black Lives Matter movement have put racial tensions in America in the spotlight. This collection of eight essays addresses the country's deep misunderstandings about race, and attacks the core of many commonly held attitudes that contribute to racism in America.

A leading scholar on narratives about race in America and its role in social justice, Davis has written, edited, or co-authored several books and numerous publications.
