Virtual Convocation FAQs
How should I prepare to join the Zoom webinar to participate in the virtual convocation?
You will need a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with speakers to participate. No webcam or microphone is needed for this event. You can test your Zoom connection by visiting https://zoom.us/test
Do I need a webcam to participate?
No, a webcam is not needed. Due to the large size of the audience, only presenters will be sharing video during the event.
Do I need a microphone to participate?
No, a microphone is not needed. Due to the large size of the audience, only presenters will be speaking during the event.
How will I be able to interact with my professors and fellow graduates during the event?
The Zoom webinar provides a chat feature that all participants can use. The event will also be streamed live to our Facebook page where you can interact with others as usual.
How should graduating students register for the convocation?
If you are a graduating student, you should have received an e-mail from Student Affairs with a link to register for the event via Zoom. After registering, you will receive information about connecting to the event. It will also be emailed to the email address you provide upon registration. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
How should my friends and extended family attend the convocation?
Once the event begins streaming live, they should go to our Facebook page to view the livestream: https://www.facebook.com/RutgersSSW/live/
Do you need to have a Facebook account to view the livestream?
No, a Facebook account is not needed to view the livestream. Participants without accounts will have a bar on the bottom of the screen prompting to login or create an account, but that can be ignored. Options in the lower right-hand corner of the screen will allow the livestream video to be expanded to full screen.
Why should they not register and attend through Zoom?
The Zoom webinar has a limited number of spots for participants. We want to ensure that all our graduating students can have a spot to attend the event directly and be able to interact with faculty and fellow students during the ceremony.
Will I be able to view the event after the fact?
Yes, the event will be available on our Facebook page and on our YouTube channel.
Will I be able to download the video after the event?
Yes, the event will be recorded and all those who will have registered will receive a link to download it.
