MSW Intensive Weekend
Welcome to the MSW Intensive Weekend Program. If you are a working professional in the field of behavioral health, child welfare, or another human service and you are interested in pursuing a MSW while continuing to work full-time, this program is specifically designed for you.
This unique program, while rigorous, is both flexible and manageable. You attend classes one weekend each month, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 9 am to 5 pm. In addition, you participate in online activities, including one synchronous online class typically scheduled on a Saturday morning in each four-week period. Cohorts provide built-in support and expand your professional networks. Classes are held in Bordentown, Jersey City, Mays Landing, and Parsippany.
You can complete the program in approximately three years. If you earned a baccalaureate degree in social work from an undergraduate social work program accredited, in the United States or Canada, by the Council on Social Work Education, you may apply for Advanced Standing and complete the program in two years. Once admitted to the program, you’ll receive a three-year calendar of course dates (a two-year calendar for Advanced Standing students). Because of the intensive nature of the course work, attendance at all class meetings and full participation in online components is required.
Applying to the IW Program
Applicants to the IW program follow the MSW application requirements and submit the online graduate admissions application. You must submit a letter of recommendation from your current work supervisor as one of your three professional recommendations. Intensive Weekend applicants are encouraged to apply early to allow time for field planning.
If offered admission to the program, you will receive an invitation to submit a field plan and participate in a field planning conference soon after your offer letter arrives. Field planning is an important part of the enrollment process for the Intensive Weekend program and admission to the program is conditional upon an approved, confirmed field placement by August 1. You may wish to begin exploring field internship opportunities at your place of employment as soon as you apply.
In the Intensive Weekend program, the field internship begins in September of the first year and continues through to the completion of the program, averaging 8-12 hours each week year-round. Most internships are workplace-based, although alternative field placements are possible.
