If you are committed to understanding, preventing, and eliminating existing and emergent social problems, Rutgers' School of Social Work is an excellent choice for fulfilling your career aspirations.

  • Bachelor of Arts with a major in social work

  • Advanced Curriculum

    Two concentrations are open to advanced students:
  • Direct Practice
  • Administration, Policy, and Planning.


  • The school also offers clusters, or organized programs of study, that focus on a specific problem area and/or population at risk. Currently, three clusters are offered: Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs; Children and Families; and Health, Mental Health, and Aging.


    Field Placement

  • Each student is required to complete 910 hours of service within two years.
  • The school is affiliated with more than 800 social service agencies throughout the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area.


  • Nondegree Courses

  • Each year, the school offers more than 200 continuing education and professional development courses and workshops at locations throughout New Jersey.

  • Getting Started

    The Bachelor of Arts with a major in social work is offered through Rutgers' Camden College of Arts and Sciences in Camden, and through Livingston College in New Brunswick/Piscataway. Contact 856/225-6104 in Camden and 732/932-7126 in New Brunswick, or you may apply online.

    The Master of Social Work program is offered in Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick (the full range of the school's offerings is available only in New Brunswick).
