What We Offer
The New Jersey Child Support Institute (NJCSI) provides customized training programs for State, county, and Judiciary employees who work in New Jersey's Child Support Program. NJCSI offers courses at attractive and modern facilities in three convenient locations. Instructors include subject matter experts and former child support professionals with experience in the Office of Child Support Services, the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Judiciary, the Family Divisions, the Probation Child Support Enforcement Units, and the County Welfare Agencies.
The NJCSI courses include:
- New Hire Training: A ten-day course required for new hires within the first six months of employment. This course provides an understanding of the foundation of the Title IV-D Child Support Enforcement (CSE) Program in New Jersey, with a focus on statutes, regulations, and rules. An overview of the State?s Automated Child Support Enforcement System (NJKiDS) and activities are also provided.
- Experienced Refresher Course: A five-day course for child support staff who have been employed for more than six months. The course provides an overview of New Jersey's Child Support Program, an update on Federal and State regulations, enhancements to NJKiDS, and recent developments in case initiation, locate, intrastate/interstate matters, enforcement, and financial reporting.
- Judicial Education: Judicial courses are developed specifically to meet the needs of the judicial staff. Currently, NJCSI offers 2 course for judicial staff, they are:
- Law Clerk Training is 2 day course that includes an overview of IV-D Theory and case scenarios to understanding the New Jersey Guidelines application system.
- Attorney Workshop is a 1 day course where attorneys bring their toughest cases to troubleshoot with national attorneys
- Specialized Courses: Future courses for 100 and 200 levels are currently under development. A sample of our current specialized courses include:
- Compliance Videos: Beginning the week of March 23, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Security Videos, Securing the Future, UNAX, and Safeguarding Tax Information became available for viewing through NJCSI?s Learning Management System (LMS) (www.njcsi.org). In accordance with IRS Publication 1075, Tax Information, Security Guidelines for Federal, State and Local Agencies and Entities, all employees in the IV-D program must view the required videos on a yearly basis.
- UIFSA Foundations: The UIFSA Foundations course is a discussion of the UIFSA requirements regarding the processing of interstate child support cases. Participants will learn to identify and use both Federal and local tools, including the Child Support Enforcement Network (CSENet) to assist in establishing, enforcing, and modifying orders in interstate child support cases. There is also a discussion of other special circumstances such as international child support cases and considerations when the non-custodial parent is in the military. The course uses a series of scenarios to give participants a hands-on learning experience.
- Web Talks: This 2 hour seminar is transmitted to listeners using telephone conference-calling technology in a format similar to a radio talk show. Professionally trained broadcast personnel work with child support experts to address topics of interest and moderate discussion. Listeners engage in discussion by calling in to ask questions and make comments.
