Ms. Michelsen's interests include gerontology and health care.


Renee Michelsen graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in Community and Family Services.  After graduating with her MSW from Bryn Mawr College in 1984, Ms. Michelsen was hired as Director of Social Work at a Geriatric Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital.  She stayed with Morristown Memorial, which became Atlantic Health System, for 19 years and managed a variety of geriatric programs and grants.  Programs included a Senior Membership Educational Program; Personal Emergency Response Program ("I've fallen and I can't get up!"); and an Elder Care Consultation and Referral Service.  In addition Ms. Michelsen was appointed by Governor Whitman to serve on the Governor's State Commission on Aging and the Governor's Council on Elder Care.  After leaving Atlantic Health, Ms. Michelsen joined Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center as Director of Social Work and Counseling.  Ms. Michelsen has many years of experience in clinical work and direct practice, administration and management.  In addition to her position as Director of Field Education, Ms. Michelsen teaches in the School of Social Work.
