Voices of Rwanda comes to Rutgers-New Brunswick

Taylor Krauss, the founder of Voices of Rwanda, will be on campus for a screening of testimonies and conversation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27th. The event will be held at the Teleconference Lecture Hall on the 4th floor of Alexander Library. A reception will be held following the screening and discussion. During the 1994 Genocide Against The Tutsi in Rwanda an estimated 800,000 Tutsi were killed in the span of three months along with tens of thousands of Hutu who opposed the Hutu killers. In the years that followed the genocide, international aid flooded the country, development and tourism was jump started, and today nearly eighteen years later, Rwanda by many measures appears to have overcome its past. But the traces of Rwanda’s history are still ever-present, particularly in the hearts and minds of the survivors who live with its consequences every day. Voices of Rwanda was established to listen to the testimonies of these survivors, and to preserve their stories for educational and research purposes.

Join Taylor Krauss, founder of Voices of Rwanda, for a screening of testimonies and a conversation about how to unpack these testimonies and the many unforeseen consequences of this documentation process.

This special event is sponsored by the Center for International Social Work at Rutgers School of Social Work, the Center for African Studies, Rutgers University Libraries, and the Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs (GAIA Centers) as part of the Technologies Without Borders: Technologies Across Borders series. Parking for the event will be available at the College Avenue Deck and Lot 30 (on Sicard Street behind the College Ave. Gym) for visitors to the University only. Students, faculty and staff must only park authorized lots or in metered spaces.
