Rutgers AmeriCorps Initiative
The Rutgers School of Social Work, Center for Nonprofit Management and Governance and AmeriCorps has partnered to strengthen and facilitate higher levels of service delivery in the Camden Community.
AmeriCorps members will engage in service to address the health and wellness of the Camden community by establishing healthy eating clubs, safe walking clubs and increasing the capacity of community gardens in a city that is struggling with poverty and access to healthy foods.
Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations in Camden and the expertise of Rutgers faculty and staff, AmeriCorps members will receive extensive training in leadership development, volunteer recruitment, community organization and service specific training in nutrition and fitness and gardening.
AmeriCorps is a national initiative that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in strengthening America's communities through service. Each year, more than 70,000 AmeriCorps Members engage in direct, intensive service to our nation's educational, environmental, public safety and human needs. AmeriCorps members make a powerful impact in the communities they serve while gaining job experience, training and skills of a lifetime for their public service.
