Rutgers AmeriCorps Initiative
The Rutgers School of Social Work, Center for Nonprofit Management and Governance and AmeriCorps has partnered to strengthen and facilitate higher levels of service delivery in the Camden Community.
AmeriCorps members will engage in service to address the health and wellness of the Camden community by establishing healthy eating clubs, safe walking clubs and increasing the capacity of community gardens in a city that is struggling with poverty and access to healthy foods.
Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations in Camden and the expertise of Rutgers faculty and staff, AmeriCorps members will receive extensive training in leadership development, volunteer recruitment, community organization and service specific training in nutrition and fitness and gardening.
