Advanced Standing

Prospective students with a BSW and strong academic and experiential credentials can be admitted to the Intensive Weekend program with advanced standing. Given the credit for undergraduate social work courses, advanced standing students complete 39 credits rather than 60 credits and may complete the MSW degree in about 1 ½ - 2 years.

Students must have a B or better in all social work classes and a strong undergraduate academic record, with a GPA of 3.0.  Applicants who have less than a B in social work courses should plan to retake these courses as Professional Credit Courses on a non-matriculate basis, at Rutgers or another accredited MSW program, prior to application, if they wish to be considered for advanced standing admission.   Please indicate on your application if you are enrolled in graduate level social work courses.
  • Online application and personal statement, transcripts, and letters of recommendation are due February 1.
  • Supplementary materials, by invitation only, are due March 31.
  • Interview is required for admission to the Intensive Weekend program
Please see MSW admission requirements for further information about admission standards.  If you would like to be considered for admission with Advanced Standing on campus, as well as to the Intensive Weekend program, please indicate this in your personal statement and/or notify us by email.

All students admitted with advanced standing to the Intensive Weekend program will join existing cohorts in Parsippany, Bordentown, and Mays Landing as these cohorts begin the advanced clinical MSW curriculum.  Spaces are limited.
